Elementary school Vice Principal Deb Gordon has a strong passion and motivation to teach young children, see them grow up, and learn new things.

What follows is Deb’s story, in her own words:

I have a sister who is six years younger than me and I taught her to read and write when she was very little, and I enjoyed it a lot. So, yeah, I always wanted to be a teacher. I think it’s very fun when people that you work with have epiphanies or realize something or understand something that they didn’t before; it’s like this golden moment, and to be around it is really rewarding and enjoyable.

I think AISB is in a really unique position because of Romania and how beautiful it is, how we are in Europe; there’s more freedom in Romania and in AISB to develop, we’re not as established and we have more room to be creative and to be courageous and all those great things that we have. And the campus is beautiful, Romania is beautiful, so I love our location.

What I like about my vice principal role that I get to know every student in the school in a way that—maybe teachers go deeper in their relationships with a small group—but I get to know all of them. Which is incredibly rewarding because just knowing so many little people, and then they grow before your eyes. And it feels astonishing to see older students; how they change and transform is just amazing. I love it.
