Grade 6 student Allegra B. recently shared her story about her artistic and creative experiences, as well as her love for Speech and Debate.

What follows is Allegra’s story, in her own words:

As a Romanian student, I have a very nice experience here and compared to other schools in Romania, this is a very good school and I’m really happy that I get to attend this school and that the school is open to doing things that other schools wouldn’t normally accept and I just feel very happy to be able to attend this school and be accepted. Because I came here in EC2, I was only 2 years old, but because I have friends that go to Romanian public schools, I’ve seen their experience before and I’ve done some service work when I was younger and I was just mesmerised by how their school functions compared to our school. [I especially enjoyed the] grade 5 PYPX exhibition, my work from elementary school finally paid off and I got to use all my skills—like my writing skills and my creative skills to make an exhibit—so I thought that was really nice.

Also, in Secondary school, I just love how many opportunities we have to do different things. I really like things related to Speech and Debate and MUN [Model United Nations], I like those kinds of things. I feel like you can really harness your skills. I mean, I talk a lot and I [argue] with a lot of people, so that was a good way for me to use my skills for the greater good.

Honestly, there’s a lot of musicals in the elementary school, in grade 4 and 5, so I always did those, and because I really didn’t know what CCAs to do, I was like, okay, Speech and Debate. And then there’s a lot of things in that, including duet acting that I got to do, so that was also nice. I love duet acting, where I got third place [at the MS CEESA tournament]. I like debate because, like I said, I talk a lot and it’s just kind of in my zone. And duet acting because it’s just kind of like a play, but it’s you and a partner, and I feel like it’s easier and better sometimes, than with a whole cast, where not everybody shows up to rehearsals. Duet acting was better because it was just the two of us and we got to do it. Drama, acting, I really love these kinds of things. So, yeah, I would not live without that. I feel like kind of getting into other characters’ roles, I feel like I really get to just use my skills and grow as a learner. And it’s a really good way for me to just learn things and do what I like.
