The Bite is the American International School of Bucharest (AISB)’s high school newspaper. Founded in 2017 as part of a Journalism course, all content is produced by students.

We are dedicated to delivering articles that affect the community—whether it’s a story on curriculum changes, a play-by-play of an important football game, or even a breakdown of the city’s best malls. Our mission is to entertain, and to give AISB high schoolers a place to write creatively.

If you’re interested in writing for The Bite, email our Managing Editor with your idea and writing samples. (See contact info below).

The Bite Staff 2017-2018:

Copy Editor | Maya Han T.

Maya loves grammar, talking, or anything related to English, and hopes to someday edit for a publishing company  while studying English at university. She has a sister in 7th grade, her mom is an artist, and her dad teaches at AISB. Maya is originally from Brooklyn, New York, and loves dim sum, taekwondo, acting, and singing at her church’s worship team.

Copy Editor | Omotoyosi A.

Omotoyosi (often referred to as Toyosi, Toytoy, or even Toyota) is the Copy Editor for 10th grade here at The Bite. She’s also in charge of designing and writing the weekly newsletter (which you should really subscribe to, by the way). Even though she plans to study medicine in the future, writing is a guilty pleasure of hers. Outside of that, she, admittedly, doesn’t do anything besides eating, sleeping, and listening to R&B.

Multimedia Manager | Sophia N.

Sophia came up with the idea for the paper’s name and logo and has written four articles for the website. She is a published author, with one book entitled “Cake Decorating for Beginners.” She is the youngest of five children and has two nieces and three nephews. Her mother is from the Marshall Islands, and her father is from Italy, Spain, and France. She has two small rescue dogs named Daisy and Lucy, and loves music, theater, and playing volleyball.

Marketing Manager | Gunel A.

Gunel is known inside and outside the newsroom for her obsessive organization and the power of her bullet journal (which makes her perfect for this job). On top of marketing, she enjoys playing sports such as soccer and basketball, creating art and referencing her favorite Vines (#ripvine). She was born in Azerbaijan and has been in international schools ever since she could remember.
