AISB’s student newspaper is looking to fill four new staff positions! Applicants must be 9th or 10th graders, able to take Journalism as their Design elective next semester (there is the possibility for current Journalism students to retake the class), and of course, be passionate about the website.

 

Copy Editor (2)

The Bite seeks two Digital Copy Editors to support the staff writers (students). This position reports to the Managing Editor (Ms. Stevens) and primarily includes proofreading and editing final drafts of news and feature stories.

Main responsibilities:

  • Edit a wide range of digital content and other written materials on a deadline.
  • Ensure that all published work follows The Bite’s editorial style guidelines.
  • Understand and apply the appropriate style to a variety of stories.
  • Propose text to improve headlines; suggest subheads and basic text as needed.
  • Aid in the revision process by leading in-class workshops.
  • The Copy editor may be asked to help write marketing copy, including monthly newsletters.

Qualifications:

  • 9th or 10th grade AISB student.
  • Must be detail oriented, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work on a tight deadline.
  • Must be flexible, organized and task oriented.
  • Must be able to work well with other students and have strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must have a passion for reading and writing.

Marketing Manager (1)

The Bite seeks one Marketing Manager to grow our readership. This position reports to the Managing Editor (Ms. Stevens) and primarily includes developing and maintaining social media content and promoting student articles.

Main responsibilities:

  • Develop a content plan for Snapchat, Instagram and Facebook.
  • Implement marketing strategies for in-class use, and work with students to integrate internal links and best practices to get more page views.
  • Use analytics to improve marketing plans and gain more readers.
  • Propose changes in headlines or featured images for marketing purposes.

Qualifications:

  • 9th or 10th grade AISB student.
  • Must be interested in online marketing.
  • Must be organized and detail oriented.
  • Must have strong communication skills.
  • Must be self-motivated.

Web Designer (1)

The Bite seeks one Web Designer to create and maintain new visual content for the website. This position reports to the Managing Editor (Ms. Stevens) and primarily includes obtaining images and multimedia (videos and podcasts), creating a new staff page, maintaining a picture gallery and updating the weekly poll.

Main responsibilities:

  • Work with AISB’s Marketing Department to get images for the gallery.
  • Communicate with teachers to get links to multimedia.
  • Design and maintain new pages on the website, including a staff page under “About.”
  • Propose ideas to make the website look more visually interesting.
  • Work with the staff writers (students) and Marketing Manager to create weekly questions and answers for the poll.

Qualifications:

  • 9th or 10th grade AISB student.
  • Must be interested in website design.
  • Must be organized and detail oriented.
  • Must have an eye for detail and a passion for multimedia.
  • Experience in WordPress is a plus, but not mandatory.
  • Photoshop and photo editing skills are desirable.
