Did you know AISB has a mother tongue program that supports not only the continued development of home languages but also translanguaging?

Translanguaging is the ability to move fluidly between languages and a pedagogical approach to teaching in which teachers support this ability. In translanguaging, students are able to think in multiple languages simultaneously and use their home language as a vehicle to learn academic English (edweek.org).

To celebrate work from this program and promote multilingualism, The Bite has curated creative writing from students in the program. The following was written in French by Lucia M. in grade 6.

La Mer

Oh ! Regardez la mer !
Cent vagues groupent leurs formes inconnues !
On aperçoit dans ses yeux bleus,
L’horizon
Essayant de rattraper le soleil couchant.

Puis voilà qu’on croit voir
Des géants
Tout droit sortis des enfers
Déversant leur colère
Répandant la misère.

Pauvres matelots,
Eux qui traversent les flots
Préservons leur mémoire !
Dans les océans les plus profonds
A jamais reposeront.
