The earth is flat, the moon landing was staged… the people of the internet have plenty of theories about our world. Ranging from Justin Bieber being a reptilian alien, to Melania Trump being replaced by a body double, here are some of the internet’s wildest theories.

Finland Doesn’t Exist

Yup, you heard that right- the country of Finland is completely fabricated. Or at least that’s what Reddit user Raregans led people to believe. He claimed “The actual ‘place of Finland’ is just Eastern Sweden,” and that the entire country is a Japanese fishing colony. Apparently, Japan and Russia agreed to create this fake landmass in order to fish in peace following the Cold War. But the plot thickens; Finland’s largest company, Nokia, is believed to play a role in this. Apparently, Nokia is Japan’s biggest importer. And since nobody seems to own a Nokia phone, what could Nokia be importing? Well, Raregans believes that they are importing fish, and that the smartphone business is just a cover up for the fish importing business.

Justin Bieber is a Reptile and the Illuminati Rule Us All

According to a Public Policy Polling survey, 12 million Americans believe that interstellar lizards in people suits rule the country. Also known as the ‘Illuminati,’ this supposed higher society consists of reptilian humans and aliens that control the government, and among those members is Justin Bieber. He supposedly “shape-shifted into a reptilian” while greeting fans at the Perth Airport in Australia, according to hundreds of eye witnesses. A PerthNow article about the event, which was immediately deleted mind you, reported that witnesses saw Bieber “with a black stripe down the middle” and “big scaly claws that were lashing out angrily.”

Melania Trump has a Body Double

A conspiracy theory that Melania Trump has a body double has gone viral on the internet. A Facebook post by Andrea Wagner Barton shows footage from one of President Trump’s speeches and explains that she doesn’t believe that the real Melania was present. She also mentions how strange it is that Donald Trump would say “my wife, Melania, who happens to be right here.” Isn’t that a little fishy? Donald Trump pointing out Melania’s obvious presence (she was standing directly next to him) caused a lot of people to ponder this statement. Additionally, during that very speech, Melania seemed to have a nose that looked just a bit larger than usual (check out the image above), leading many to believe that indeed, Melania Trump has a body double.

The Moon Landing was Staged

Many online theorists believe that the Apollo 11, the space flight that first brought humans to the moon back in 1969, was fake. They believe that it was all a hoax- recorded in a studio by NASA due to the rising tensions between NASA and the USSR at the time. Conspiracy theorists have found questionable facts about the footage from the mission that might lead us to believe that the it was actually staged. Not to mention that the original full recordings of the mission were mysteriously ‘lost’ by NASA, and that the technology used to go to the moon was supposedly ‘destroyed.’ For example, above is a picture of the American flag on the moon, appearing to be waving. Of course, this would be impossible in space, given that there is no air to wave the flag around… unless it was all shot in a studio, right here on earth.

Also, some images from the landing contain shadow orientation that look a bit strange. For example, in the image below, you can see that the shadow of the pictured astronaut is diagonal. On the other hand, if you look in the reflection of his helmet, the photographer’s shadow seems completely horizontal. Theoretically, since the sun is so far away, their shadows should be parallel, but instead it appears as if they come from a smaller, closer form of light, and therefore the shadows diverge. This misalignment in shadows brought many to jump to the conclusion that the light source is a studio light, because what else could this source of light be?

Hint: not much.

The Earth is Flat

Yup, here it is folks, the most infamously known theory on the internet: the earth is flat. Millions of people around the globe (pun intended), believe that the earth isn’t actually round. People who believe that the earth is flat (publicly dubbed ‘flat-earthers’), believe that we live on a flat plane. Antarctica plays a big role in this theory.

Apparently, it’s more than just an ice cap at the bottom of our planet; instead, it’s a massive ice wall that circles the edge of our flat plane (see image, left). This is supported by a treaty signed in the late 50’s by almost all nations to stay away from Antarctica, as if there’s something secret there… something secret like… the edge of the earth?

Also, note that planes never fly over Antarctica- only around it, again, strengthening the idea that something is hiding in Antarctica, or perhaps, beyond Antarctica. While there are obvious contradictions to this theory, the biggest of which being gravity- theorists will remind you that most of these laws of physics, including gravity, are merely theories- systems of ideas with no physical evidence.
