Naruto is one of the most well-known anime series of all time, thanks to its wide variety of characters and captivating story. The premise is: a boy named Naruto has a dream to win popularity by becoming the leader of his village. To accomplish his goal, he and his allies follow the ninja path and encounter many challenges.

The series has over 700 episodes and is divided into two parts: Naruto and Naruto Shippuden. Naruto is based on Part I of the original manga (with small plot changes), while Naruto Shippuden is the sequel that corresponds to Part II of the manga.

2. Death Note

Death Note is ranked the most popular anime of all time on MyAnimeList. The series, directed by Tetsuro Araki (director of Attack on Titan, below), is about a high school student Light Yagami who finds a notebook which kills anyone whose name is written in it. Light wants to use this book to kill every criminal in Japan and bring peace to the world, while detective “L” tries to apprehend him.

3. Attack on Titan

Attack on Titan is a fairly recent series (released in 2013) that immediately attracted the public’s attention for its graphic animation. The story takes place in an imaginary era where humans and cannibalistic titans coexist. When titans destroy villages and start devouring humans, a young boy named Eren Yeager – whose mother has been murdered by a titan – joins the military to get revenge and exterminate all titans from Earth.

4. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure

Like most other animes, Jojo’s Biazarre Adventure is based on a famous manga series of the same title. It revolves the Joestar family whose members were gifted with supernatural powers. There are two anime adaptations with different producers, released in 1993 and 2012 (ongoing) accordingly. There are four seasons in the newer series, with more than 140 episodes aired in total.

5. Cowboy Bebop

Cowboy Bebop is a TV series released in 1998; the anime might be old, but the futuristic yet classical setting makes the story unique and evergreen. The “Cowboy crew,” made up of four members with mysterious backgrounds and a genetically-engineered Welsh Corgi, tries to keep the solar system safe from invasion.
