This past Halloween, The Bite decided to get the inside scoop on one of AISB students (along with other schools in the area) annual traditions: trick or treating in Oxford Gardens.
This gated community offers the perfect location for a fun, safe, informal, family-friendly event where students and parents of all ages can dress up in their spookiest and silliest costumes to be seen. We found tons of scary, fun and cute costumes.
Originally, we were going to create a video in the format of interviews but due to technical difficulties with our microphone, all of our interviews have no audio.
So, knowing this, here are some stills of our favourite costumes from the night!
Blind Mice
Maia T. (10th grader at AISB) and Fanni N. (10th grader at Avenor School) are dressed as the iconic Three Blind Mice, but with a little twist: they’re missing their third mouse!

For the basics of this costume you need dark sunglasses, mouse ears, and walking stick/cane, for extra points you can add whiskers on your face like they did.
The outfit can be changed depending on what you want but these girls are wearing black shirts and black jeans. Just remember: you’ll need a third friend if you want to really be a trio! But even as a duo, they’re costumes are still super cute.
Princess and the Pea
Here we have Lea A. (10th Grader at Cambridge) dressed as the princess from the nostalgic fairytale of “Princess and the pea”.

The costume consists of pink pyjamas, a robe, a tiara and slippers. Lea was also holding a stuffed plush depicting green peas for a final touch, which we loved.
Ghostface
You can never go wrong with a classic like Ghostface from Scream on Halloween.

To replicate this look, you need a ghost face mask, paired with a long black coat/outfit. A splatter of fake blood or a fake knife can also elevate the look and add to its scare level.
To fully embody the costume, remember Ghostface’s unsettling words: “It’s always someone you know.” Because Ghostface’s mystery is more terrifying than its appearance, keep everyone guessing as you stalk the area in eerie silence.
MF DOOM
Fabyano O. from Grade 10 is spotted dressed in one of MF DOOM’s most iconic outfits from his performance “Live from the Garden”, which took place during his “Operation: Doomsday” album.

The outfit consists of the signature MF DOOM metallic mask– which Fabyano O. says he made himself for the look–, a green hoodie, a red vest, and jeans. This costume was by far one of our favourites.
Monsters
Monsters are supposed to be scary but this duo make them look cute. Sofia D. and Alky K. (12th graders at AISB) pictured on the right as Sulley (Monsters Inc) and Stitch (Lilo and Stitch).

Those onesies sure look cozy!
Hot Dog
Here we have Brownie the Daschund/Weiner dog dressed as a hot dog; literally living up to its name.

Definitely stole the show and secured himself a spot in our hearts, the most adorable costume we have seen the whole night!
Headless Boy
Last but certainly not least, we have a boy cloaked in mystery: partly because his face is hidden beneath a scarf and, thanks to technical difficulties, we couldn’t hear his name!

With a scarf covering his face and a wire supporting a hat and glasses hovering just above, his genius costume gives the impression that his head is floating. To achieve this look, wrap a scarf around your head, fasten it to a strong wire frame, and finish the floating effect with a hat and glasses. Just watch out for low doorways or you could end up really headless! When asked about his inspiration, he explained that the idea popped into his head just hours before, and with a little help from his dad, he whipped up this costume. A true last minute masterpiece!
These costumes show how Halloween never fails to bring out the creativity humour, and spooky charm in everyone. Every look, from intricate DIY projects to tributes to famous characters, tell us a tale, and occasionally even a last minute idea can steal the show.
These outfits serve as a reminder that Halloween is all about having a good time and using your imagination.
Until next year! 🎃
