For years, AISB’s secondary students have looked forward to their grade level field trips in September. This year, however, grades 7-10 were disappointed to discover that this year, they’ll have to wait until May.

Why are only the 6th, 11th and 12th graders having their trips next week? Why are the rest of the students being left behind?

When asked to comment, AISB Secondary School Vice Principal Fiona Moss explained the reasoning for the change. She cited concerns over the safety of the secondary students and the difficulty to accommodate a larger student body across Romania as the primary motivation for dividing the trips.

The 6th graders will have a nature oriented excursion to help them bond and acclimate to the secondary school. The upperclassmen will be having Diploma oriented trips. In May, the rest of the grades will be able to choose between a selection of unique experiences to help them discover their passions. For the first time, grade levels will be combined. Students in grades 7 and 8 will be mixed based on their interests. The same will occur for students in grades 9 and 10. The exact number of trips is still to be determined; however, students are welcome to come with ideas for potential destinations to Miss Moss in the next few weeks.

What will students in grades 7-10 be doing next week?

They will partake in an “experiential week,” which will to allow grade levels to bond, serve their community and learn in engaging ways outside the traditional classrooms.
The first two days will be regular classes, with the exception of some minor changes in the schedule. Monday, students will have blocks A, F, E, H and Tuesday they will have blocks, B, C, D and G.
The last three days of the week, each grade will have activities and unique experiences–some of which will take students somewhere off campus (in Bucharest).

Note that this schedule is subject to change, but was accurate at time of publishing. If you’re interested in leading an activity next week for your grade level, please contact Mr. Pontius or Miss Moss to arrange the details.
